What do we need to succeed?
Would I be a better writer if we had a new computer?
Would I be a better athlete if wIhad the latest and greatest running shoes?
Does an expensive suit make us a better business person (or politician)?
Think about it
Zoila Budd used to run barefoot. She was an international champion. She put in the taining. Day after day, week after week, year after year. That's how she became a world champion.
Richard Branson never wore fancy suits. He did okay. Still does, From a hammock on his own island. Not bad for a bloke who left school at 15!
Some politicians wear overalls to work. Doesn't make them honest. Or hard working.
Hemingway always used an old, almost broken down typewriter. Would the latest Apple computer have made him a better writer?
Stallone wrote Rocky on scraps of paper.
Point is, we don't need the fancy stuff to make us better at something.
We don't need the "passion" or "desire" much either.
It's easy to be passionate when you're succeeding. And that's desirable, isn't it?
Do you need the right clothes, equipment and passion to follow your dream?
If you want to be a writer, all you have to do is write every day. That's it...........
Getting into the habit of writing something (anything) every day, will get you where you want to go. Not a new laptop.
Or more lessons. Learning only works when you act on what you've learned.
You just have to start. Every day. Day after day. Sometimes for years.
And the same goes for anything else.
I bet the world beating athletes don't only train when they feel like it. The non-successful, talented ones maybe. Not the professionals.
They train flat out every day. For as long as it takes. Then they train harder. To stay on top.
Most of us waste our time on the unimportant things. The last 10%.
The right computer. The right experience. The right qualifications. The right "friends". The right boss. And lot of other "right" stuff.
We obsess over all these things. "Just do it". Thank you Nike.
So if you didn't have a good workout in the gym this morning. What's the excuse? Need better shoes? Not enough Shake Shake before or after. Too hot. Too cold?
Why the excuses? Is it because it's easier to waste time on them than it is to complete the workout?
The biggest reason for success is sticking to the basics. Do the work.
Not the work that's easy to do. Not the work that makes you look good. Not the work that inspires you. Just do the work.
Want to be a writer? Write every single day. Anything. Just write. The ideas will come as you do so.
And you'll get a little better each time. Practice. Training. Dedication. The success will come.
And the same goes for everything else. Don't try to find the easy way out. There isn't one. Just do the work.
Nature teaches us patience in the garden. Tomatoes don't just appear. The plant has to keep working to produce the fruit. Success. Over time.
You don't need a bigger computer to be a Hemingway. Or a better guitar to play like Eric Clapton. Or a better camera to be a Salvidor Dali. Or a better suit to be a Richard Branson.
Just do the work.
Make up your mind, make a plan and get started. Now.
Have a great day. It's the first one for the rest of your life.
Have some fun.
